After lengthy reflection and no doubt a twinge of sorrow, Laurel Paluck has announced her decision to step down as general manager of Public Energy. Since August of 2008 Ms. Paluck has filled the role of general manager with grace and aplomb, managing Public Energy through a time of growth and transition. Over her five plus years, Public Energy’s budget grew by 30% and programming expanded with major events such as the annual week-long Ode’min Giizis Festival. During this time the organization also developed a three year strategic plan and moved its offices on two occasions while supporting the extensive renovation process to its home venue, the Market Hall Performing Arts Centre. Over her time with Public Energy she has become its well-loved public face, be it through greeting audiences in the lobby at events, teaching her popular children’s theatre workshops or leading audiences around Peterborough’s downtown on her signature theatrical adventures known as AlleyWaltzes.
Laurel is looking forward to spending more time pursuing her artistic endeavors, which include directing Atelier Ludmila, her theatre and puppetry production company, and writing her next full-length play, which Public Energy has promised to produce if it does not have too many men in gorilla suits and Freudian jokes. The puppets are OK for now. All kidding aside, Laurel and Public Energy are not parting ways completely; she will continue to be a valuable part of the Public Energy team as she contributes to future projects such as The Wearable Art Show and Erring at The Mount.
The process for seeking a new general manager for Public Energy is already underway. A job posting can be viewed here, the application deadline is November 5, 2013.
