Youth Performance Leaders Program

Youth Performance Leaders Program

In the fall of 2017 Public Energy is launching its first ever program for youth in partnership with Market Hall Performing Arts Centre. The Performance Youth Leaders Program will be offering 10-15 Ontario Secondary students the opportunity to learn about contemporary dance, theatre and performance. Performance Youth Leaders will:

  • Meet at Market Hall Performing Arts Centre once a month before each season performance
  • Learn about a wide range of performance styles and artistic practices
  • Tour behind the scenes and learn about technical elements such as lighting, staging, and sound from Market Hall’s Operations Manager
  • Learn about and participate in front of house activities
  • Meet and talk to Public Energy’s season artists about their work
  • Attend all Public Energy’s season performances for free
  • Discuss and interpret performances in a discussion group after the show and share their findings with their communities in a variety of ways

Performance Youth Leaders will be selected by application in the fall of 2017. Time spent in the Performance Youth Leaders Program can be counted toward Ontario secondary schools volunteer hours.

Accessibility Action Plan

Accessibility Action Plan

Accessibility Action Plan

Public Energy’s artistic and administrative team is working to develop an accessibility strategy for the organization to dramatically improve accessibility on all levels for persons with disabilities, different social, cultural and economic backgrounds, as well as the widest range of sexuality and expression, and in so doing remove physical, social, and cultural barriers to access. During our 2017-2018 season we will begin by developing an accessibility strategy including rebuilding our website to comply to the highest degree with the AODA Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. We then plan to work with individuals and organizations to improve the accessibility and inclusivity of Public Energy and our programs. We are privileged to be located in a newly renovated fully accessible venue at the Market Hall theatre, but we recognize that we have an enormous amount of work to do.

Artist Residency Program

Public Energy’s Artist Residency Program offers performing artists the opportunity to develop the technical aspects of their work: lighting, scenography, stage management, sound and projection in our home venue, the Market Hall Performing Arts Centre. These residencies give artists the valuable experience of financially supported time within a well equipped facility, helping them to develop and professionalize the technical aspects of their work. Residencies often culminate with a performance, either the premiere of a new work or re-mount of an existing one, giving smaller to mid-range companies and artists the chance to advance their creative work on a specific project. While in residence, artists also take part in our In Your Space Community Workshop Series which provides community groups and organizations in Peterborough access to the performing arts via hands-on learning experiences.
