Mysterious Entity Theatre presents Romeo & Juliet: Superstar Ice Miners of Europa!!! (Earth Premiere!)

The bard’s tragedy of star-cross’d lovers meets anti-corporate sci-fi in Romeo & Juliet: Superstar Ice Miners of Europa!!! In a future where Jupiter's moon, Europa, is being mined for ice to supply water to Earth, Shakespeare’s original text is skilfully blended with new writing to create a space-age scenario featuring themes of environmental collapse, surveillance, celebrity culture, and homophobia. The result is, in the words of reviewer Sam Tweedle, “entertaining, clever, intelligent, and performed to perfection; the greatest tragedy of this production will be if you miss it.”

dollhouse mousetrapsDollhouse World Premiere

Bill Coleman (concept, dance, performance) Gordon Monahan (music, sound, visuals)

In Dollhouse, internationally renowned dancer/choreographer Bill Coleman inhabits an installation created by celebrated avant-garde composer Gordon Monahan.

Movement, tap dancing and performance art intermingle with manipulated objects - mechanical and electronic, handmade and found.

The result: a 60-minute theatrical disintigration that is not only an eye-opening spectacle but also a unique musical experience.

Coleman plays the role of modern fakir, suffering through a symphonic chaos of sight and sound.

Disruptive and surprising, Dollhouse walks a unique line between Artaudian theatre and slapstick, with Coleman as simultaneously conductor and instrument.

The performer's disastrous interaction with this world is a search for meaning in which "I'm alive!" is confirmed with every painful interaction.

Bridget Moser About Face

A Fuelled By Public Energy Event

A performance and video artist versed in prop comedy, dance and experimental theatre, Bridget Moser engages with the physicality and humanity of everyday objects with uncanny comedic results. About Face draws on the intrinsic intelligence of the inanimate world – revealing what the objects in our lives reflect about who we are and the world we’ve created.

In About Face, Moser interacts with a coat rack, arm chair cover, TV, small plastic stick, and a 3-D printed replica of her own face, all the while sporting club wear covered in Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Moser describes the objects that feature in her performances as “perfectly balanced between a kind of magic and stupidity” adding “there’s so much good ground in between those two places to work with”.

Moser’s new work shifts between fragmented segments, combining conversation, movement, and at times music, leaving gaps for audiences to draw their own conclusions.  About Face reveals the absurdity of the everyday, while responding to Moser’s ongoing question of “how to deal with being alive.” Bending logic and humour, Moser gives us a glimpse into what our lives could be if we could let go of everything we thought we knew about how the world works.

Fleshy Thud presents Ryan Kerr's Dazzle Ships

A Fuelled By Public Energy Event

TTOK is happy to present Fleshy Thud's new dance performance "Dazzle Ships."

Featuring Kate Story, Sarah McNeilly, Andrew Little and Elizabeth Moody, choreographer Ryan Kerr has based his new show on a 1983 album of the same title by Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark. An investigation into the cold war, communication, and secrets.

Bob Stanley in The Guardian wrote: "[The album] contained no obvious hits and soundtracked the cold war at its coldest. No one bought it, mind you, so Dazzle Ships came to be viewed as a heroic failure – the ultimate commercial suicide...[it] entered the charts at No 5, then dropped like a stone."
